Topic:Effect of soilcrete characteristics on surface settlement during tunelling in Vietnam, 2011 Abstract:Excess surface settlement during construction of underground structures such as tunnels is concerned for historic buildings in big cities. A metro line No. 1 located at 20 m deep under the ground surface will be built in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) soon, and this metro crosses the City underneath many historic buildings. Reinforcing the soil mass surrounding the tunnel by soil-cement mixing (soilcrete) using jet grouting is considered a feasible solution to reduce surface settlement. However, appropriate characteristics of soilcrete for the HCMC’s geological conditions have not been thoroughly investigated. This study investigated the relationship between the characteristics of soilcrete (young modulus and thickness) and surface settlement at the city opera house, the historic building close to the metro, with a maximum allowable surface settlement of 10 mm.

Topic:Design an Extradosed Bridge, 2009 Abstract:Extradosed bridge is a new structure, a new kind of bridge in Vietnam. This is an especial structure using outer prestress concrete. Extradosed structures are considered like an intermediate structure between prestress concrete box girde bridge using Free Cantilever Method (FCM) and stayed cable bridge. This structure can solve two disadvantages of other structures. Comparing with FCM structure, the height of girder box of extradosed bridge is smaller that of FCM. Comparing with stayed cable bridge, the height of tower of extradosed structure is smaller that of stayed cable one. However, applying extradosed bridge in Vietnam has not been general. Additional, there is not standard for designing the extradosed structure in Vietnam. In this thesis, the extradosed bridge is analized following two ways. The first way, this structure is calculated like FCM strcuture. It means that calculation the moment of bridge is solved first and then design the prestress cable as an outer cable. The second one, this structure is calculated like stayed cable bridge. It means that determination of prestressing force in cable is computed first, change those forces following construction stage. This study found out that the first way is suitable for extradosed strcuture with main span ‘s length of 180 m
